SWEET TIMES OF LONG AGO Oh the sweet times of long ago When young days were piled high Stretching before me like a ribbon My how the times does fly. For my days were overflowing And my nights were soft and warm Life held neither care nor worry On calm seas my spirit was borne. The small town where this all started Was a protection from worldly cares Barbs and arrows fell by my side Protected from all pits and snares. A world of peace was all I knew Not a worry did I know Seldom listening to our radio Others news traveled kinda slow. A world at rest in those early years Brought peace of mind my way Time floated by like a lovely cloud For my eyes only it did play. Rivers and creeks in the summer time Became havens where I would hide Snow on the hills in the cold winters Where swift sleds I loved to ride. Through ghostly visions on a winding path I recall joy and peace inside To stop, to rest, to enjoy those times As down memory lane I stride. The journey takes only a moment A few steps and I am there Sitting on the bank of my yesteryears Sweet memories my mind does share. I found no need for others To join me in my secret game Only I knew how to play it With others it was not the same. Those days when my mind was free Are savored as through life I go A carefree life of love and joy Oh the sweet times of long ago. |
